Hey guys,

Anyone who like Diablo style RPG's should look into a game called Path of Exile.

It's been in closed beta for the longest time but last Wednesday it went to open beta. The game is free to play, supported by micro-transactions, but this time done right. The only things you can purchase using real money is cosmetic stuff. Nothing that changes your characters stats is available for cash. You can't even buy in-game currency with real money.

I got into the closed beta almost a year ago and the game is awesome. Graphically it's nice, especially if you weren't a fan of D3's painterly look, and Torchlight's cartoony look. Little details like water running down the trunks of tree's when it's raining out, and the skittering of little bugs on the jungle floor when you walk past them. Not to mention the skill tree. If you're anything like me and don't take the games too seriously this skill tree will probably scare you, and intimidate you. I know it did for me when I first saw it. But the way they've structured it and built it is very intuitive and it's actually not all that hard to use or understand. You're able to easily see all the skills and bonus', as well as how to get there and what other skills and bonus' you'll need first. And if you screw it up, no big deal. You can get "orbs of regret" for in-game currency (identification scrolls) that let you reverse any accidental skill selections. Here's a link to an image of the full skill tree. It's 5728x5512 and almost 5MB in size. http://pool.pathofexilewiki.com/w/images/Skill_tree.jpg. There's also an interactive version of it on the Path of Exile website which I'll link at the end of this post.

From what I understand, this game since going into open beta has stolen a lot of D3's players that were frustrated at Blizzard's lack of end game content. For those that don't know, when you beat Diablo 3, you get to play it all over again, same missions, just on a slightly harder difficulty, 4 times over. That sounds like fun... not! There is no PVP, and the game just feels stale after the 2nd or 3rd run through. I made it to the hardest game mode, and went through Act 1, but after running Act 1 four times now, and Act 2,3 and 4 three times now, I have no interest in continuing to play. Path of Exile fills in where Diablo didn't. Since going open beta Path of Exile has around 250K players, of which around 70K-80K are active at any given time.

If anyone wants to join me in playing I've created a channel in TS3. My character's name is Dolthar, he's a duelist. If you're interested in playing together, post your character names below and I'll add you to my friends list. I'm only a L2 character right now. But that changes quickly with this game.

I'm still in the early stages of Act 1. I'll join you. You can find me on TS3 playing if you're around.
